1918 PHILIP GIES 5 GALLON IMP. FRY PUMP
*** EXTREMELY RARE *** A HISTORIC PIECE
CANADIAN MADE
(time permitting will be fully restored)
Produced for the Guarantee Liquid Measure Company of Rochester, PA.
Between 1915 to 1924 the early versions of five-gallon Guarantee Visible Pumps were characterized by their shorter size and heavy use of cast iron as opposed to the sheet metal designs of the late 1920.
From 1925 to 1930 the trade name “Guarantee Visible” was dropped in favor of an emphasis on the family name “Fry”. Now the five and ten-gallon visible pumps became known as Fry Visible Pumps.
Between 1921 and 1925, the Canadian sales territory was organized as a licensed distributorship operated by the Philip Gies Pump Company, Ltd. of Kitchener, Ontario. In 1926, the Canadian organization became an independent operation known as the Fry Equipment Company Ltd. and the Canadian headquarters were moved to Toronto, Ontario.
It appears that the pumps were produced at the Philip Gies Foundry in Kitchener, Ont. The foundry, which no longer exists, was known for producing cast iron components such as furnaces. There is some evidence that Philip Gies may actually be the inventor of the Fry pump!*
We discovered the following Canadian patent and suspect that this patent was filed many years prior to the issue date. This adds creadence to the idea of Gies being the true inventor.
Philip Gies Pump Company Ltd
Patent number: CA 301456
Title: Dispensing Apparatus for Gasoline
Inventor: Walter Dark
Issued: June 24, 1930
This pump is truly a collectors item as it illustrates the complexities of the industry at the time and helps us accurately represent and separate historical fact from fiction.

1920'S - 5 CENT APPLE VENDER MACHINE:
*** VERY RARE ***
Produced by the Apple Vender Company of Yakima, Washington.
Vending operations were managed by the Apple Service Company of Los Angeles. Machines were distributed through Chicago, Long Beach, San Francisco, Detroit and Seattle. These machines averaged 110 apples sold a day.
This is definitely very rare and a museum quality piece.
In addition the Apple Vender Company produced a few other versions such as a table top version and a refrigerated model.
Patents for these units refer to Noah H. Massie, also of Yakima, WA as the inventor.
Patent application for the floor model was filed in 1927 and granted in 1929.
The counter top model followed in 1928 being granted also in 1929.
PAT 1,705,936
PAT 1,729,886
1953 CAVALIER 102 COKE MACHINE:
*** EXTREMELY RARE ***
Produced by the Cavalier Company exclusively for Coca-Cola, 1 run of 500 units were made in July of 1953, no more were ever produced. Today there are probably less than 8 or 9 in existence.
The Cavalier 102 is essentially two Cavalier 51 machines back to back so the machine can vend from both sides. Like the Cavalier 51 the 102 has a unique belt driven vending mechanism.
The bottle doors, coin bezel, and bottle cap removal bezel are typically chromed. All Cavalier-102 models came with the words "Drink Coca-Cola" embossed on the top and in bold letters "ICE COLD" on the bottom.
